Marie Curie Great Daffodil Appeal

Marie Curie Cancer care for people with cancer and people with other life limiting illnesses. Their services are always free of charge to patients and their families, which means that in 2007-08, they will need to raise more than £115 million.
The charity is best known for its network of Marie Curie Nurses working in the community to provide end-of-life care for patients in their own homes.
The Great Daffodil Appeal took place throughout the month of March. In this month the aim was to get everyone across UK to give donations for daffodil badges and wear them with dignity. At Newport we sold daffodils and raised a total of £20.31.

They Came, They Saw, They Conquered!

3L's Class Assembly

This half term Year three have been learning about the Romans and Celts. Today the whole school enjoyed 3L's assembly. We began by watching some Celtic dance...

Who were interupted by a Roman invasion....
A battle commenced....

The Roman's won, and we heard some of the soldier's poetry describing the battle....

We then learnt about Boudica and the revolt that she led. Unfortunatley she wasn't successful and she died....

But was she a hero or a villian? Both sides put across their opinions....

Well done 3L - you showed us some excellent dance, drama and poetry.
You have worked really hard.

Y6 Science Fair

A group of Year 6 children attended the Primary Science Fair at St Joseph’s School Aldershot. The visit enabled the children to see how science is applied a wide variety of industries. The forensic scientist from the Police Service demonstrated how fingerprints are extracted from scene-of-the-crime evidence using “magna flakes.” The workshop then went on to let pupils sample they own unique finger print design which they examined for loops, arches and whirls.

Carillion construction set a challenge to build a structure with as many squares as possible. The Newport team did very well and won joint first prize for their amazing 33 square chair design.

The Flour Advisory exhibit explained the importance of whole grain food to a healthy diet and how to separate out different grades of flour. Newport pupils were soon very adept at grinding their own flour.

Sport Relief

One Friday 14th March the whole school took part in the Sport Relief Mile. The pupils ran and walked around our playground, some of them wearing their silly socks or Sport Relief socks. Mrs Painter also did her bit by running around with the children, although the pupils managed a few more laps !

The school raised £241.45, with class 5T raising the most money - so well done to them.

Ros Bilbrough from Sport Relief, came down to start the proceedings and even did a few laps herself.

WELL DONE TO EVERYONE !

The Tempest

Year Five Able English Group

The recent storms that have battered the country this week have given Year 5 an insight into the opening scene of the Tempest. They have been studying William Shakespeare’s last play, The Tempest, as part of a Tudor literacy workshop. The pupils were also taken to see a musical version of this comic play by the Shakespeare4 kids company at Camberley theatre. It was a brilliant performance from the young actors in the company who really bought the play to life. Trinculo’s comic timing and Ariel’s gracefulness made them favourites with the Newport pupils.

Sport Relief

On Friday 14th March we will be taking part in Sport Relief. On Friday everyone at school will be taking part in a collective run/walk of the Sports Relief Mile on our very own playground.

As the mile is going to be hard work on our socks and feet everyone needs to be prepared. For one day only instead of wearing your normal socks to school with your school uniform you can wear your sportiest or brightest socks! Wearing your special socks you’ll definitely be able to make it round the playground for the mile!

Each class will have their own ‘Special Sports Relief Sock’ and we’re asking everyone who wears their own non-uniform socks to bring a cash donation to help fill their class sock! The class who fills their sock with the most money wins!

Don’t forget it’s only your socks you need to change for the day – you should still wear rest of your school uniform!

The Big Hush

Congratulations to Y4 for taking part in The Big Hush sponsored Event for Macmillian Cancer Support. Well done to all those children in Y4 who took part in the Big Hush last term. We have received a thank you letter from Macmilliam Cancer support for our donation of £440.32 which was raised at the event!
